According to the Bhagavadgita, in the very ancient times, God created two paths, the path of knowledge and the path of action. The path of knowledge is meant for those who have renounced life, who have stabilized their minds and achieved enlightenment; where as the path of action is meant for those who lead worldly life, who have obligatory duties to perform and who have not been able to overcome their desires. In his commentary Sri Shankaracharya repeatedly asserts that the path of action is fit for those who are not enlightened and who have not attained stability. In the present day world, most educated Hindus want to pursue the path of knowledge, with yoga, meditation etc., without corresponding wisdom, stability and purity, while they mostly ignore to perform their obligatory duties and responsibilities with detachment and sacrificial attitude.
