I read an article by K V Ramakrishna Rao in this website on comparison among Srimanta Sankaradeva, Chaitanyadeva and Vallabhacharya. I found some erroneous comments there. For instance, Srimanta Sankaradeva went on second pilgrimage in 1550, not in 1533 as given by Dr Rao. Srimanta Sankaradeva did not meet Chaitanyadeva at any point of time. Dr Rao tries to show Chaitanyadeva's influence on Srimanta Sankaradeva, which we have already proved in several books/articles as untenable. In fact it was other way round. Srimanta Sankaradeva left his mark on Bengal Vaishnavism as well as Orissa Vaishnavism. He was the first person to introduce Sankirtana. He used his plays to preach his Vaishnavite ideals. He was the first playwright in any modern Indian language. Dr Rao is also wrong in saying that Srimanta Sankaradeva's attitude to women was restrictive and he did not initiate them, the reality being quite the opposite. Srimanta Sankaradeva initiated many women like Barabahi, Kalindi, Chakuli etc. For accurate information about Srimanta Sankaradeva, one may see the website sankaradeva.com launched by Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva. I am surprised that the author has neither responded nor corrected his article yet. There are many more mistakes in his article. For instance Srimanta Sankaradeva did not spend eight years in second pilgrimage as written by the author.
