Hello: I am invited to a head shaving ceremony for friends' son, and I am wondering if a gift of some sort for the chlld is the proper etiquette. I am looking forward to the event, but am American and have never had any experience with the Hindu religion. I would appreciate any feedback you could give me. Also, if a gift is in order, is there anything in particular that would be appropriate,or more importantly, inappropriate.

Thanks So Much

Not strictly necessary. Close relatives usually give gifts on such occasions. It is your personal choice. If you don't want to go empty handed, you can give a gift, a toy or a gift certificate.
