Religion is part inspired, part human and part fiction

Our religion is a mixture of that very consciousness which represents us and which characterizes us. Part of our religion is inspired by the highest wisdom to which we can ascend in our moments of pure inspiration. A part of it is product of our intellectual labor. There are also elements of our imagination, which somehow gets mixed up with the basic teachings and comes to be recognized as the main teaching. Let us call it wis(h)dom.

A great deal of misunderstandings that arise from our religions comes from this area. Let us admit that our knowledge is a mixture of both light and darkness. This is true not only in respect of our religions, but also science and humanities. We cannot arive at truth all the time. We cannot perceive it correctlhy all the time. We cannot explain it accurately all the time. The wisdom is to live with such an understanding and humility and witout the certitude that what we know may be or may not be correct all the time. If you think you know God or if you think you are sure of what He is, then you probably do not know Him.

Jayaram V
Forum: Hinduism

Is Religious Hatred In the Name of Religion Justified?

The purpose of religion is to make man morally, socially and personally more responsible, dutiful and considerate towards self and others. Every religion teaches how important it is to cultivate virtues and practice morality. The scriptures emphasize the need to overcome desires, cultivate detachment and transform oneself so that one would be either eligible for a place in heaven or progress towards salvation. Every religion tells us how necessary it is to surrender to God, cultivate humility and let go of our worldly concerns and attachments.

But what do we do mostly in the name of religion? Even after all the progress we have made, we bring out the worst of our behavior to show our resentment and anger against people of other faiths.

The conservative elements in every part of the world do not like communism or socialism, but they want everyone to follow the same religion! How is it that when we know that every entity in the world is made out to be distinct and unique, we do not want the same with regard to the religions we practice?

We know that the world is not created to be uniform. This is well evident in every aspect of our lives. Even we are not the same individuals at two distinct points on the time and space continuum. Diversity is the essential nature of God's creation. Then why should we have one religion for everyone? Who are these people who want to tell you which religion is better for you? What do they know about you or your connection with God?

Let no one tell you what religion you should follow. Let your soul make the decision. Let it not be influenced by considerations that are of no consequences to your moral, mental and spiritual aspirations. Don't change your religion because somene wants to give you money or a job or someone wants to send your son or daughter to America. Don't sell your soul for money or material. If you are insincere and selfish in your current religious practice, you will be insincere and selfish in your new one also. Religion will not take you near God. It is your commmitment to your salvation, which will.

Rationally speaking, your birth into a particular religion is either an accident or the will of God. If it is the former, then you don't have to worship any God. If it is the latter you have to respect the will of God and accept what has been given to you, perhaps as a part of your spiritual and moral development.

Let us agree and acknowledge that religion is a tool for our self-transformation, not an end in itself. No one is going to reward us for fighting battles in the name of God. If God has given us all an individual will to exercise our discretion, it goes without saying that he also want us to use it intelligently to choose our our religious paths. So follow your heart and worship God according to your spiritual inclinations and your heart's silent aspiration.

Jayaram V
Forum: Hinduism

getting off the wheel, but not blissing out either

I am not a Hindu but I probably could fit right in with the crowd. I've been trying to learn the deeper secrets of existence for years, read many books on the subject, and I'm at the point where I see I'll probably have to do meditation to go any further.

A book summary is probably in order here..

* Charan Singh: Light on Sant Mat

* Lee Carroll: Various channeled books by Kryon

* Barbara Brennan: Hands of Light, Light Emerging

* Neale Walsch: Conversations With God 1, 2, 3

* Robert Monroe: Journeys out of the Body, Far Journeys, Ultimate Journeys

* Many others

The Monroe books are probably the clearest and most lucid western books on ideas of the astral body, and also probably the mystical ideas related to Hinduism itself.

I have done some of the Monroe Hemi-sync audio-guided meditations, and I have managed to get to the point where the strong internal vibrations start, which is where astral separation apparently begins...

But my living arrangements aren't very supportive of going any further with the humming and breathing exercises. Due to finances, for the past decade I've lived at home with a very Catholic mother that doesn't like such unChristian things, and the rest of the family thinks its weird, so nothing has been happening for about ten years.

I'm slowly working on building up my finances to build a place of my own, which will have either a sound isolation room or an isolation float tank, or maybe both.

=======

I take a somewhat different direction with the whole reincarnation thing, which I consider to be the more empowered approach. There is this idea that everything is God, and the we are all a part of God, and potentially creating this experience in this moment.

What is to prevent a part of God choosing to create its own reality, distinct from the rest of this stuff? The power of God appears to be unlimited, and it would appear that we too are also unlimited in our capability. It is only our present human existence that makes us seem limited.

I accept that there may be some sort of governing spiritual or mystical contract related to this world that prevents it from being corrupted by certain aspects of God wanting to change the game in progress. Monroe's books make a suggestion that some sort of governing contract may exist for souls intending to incarnate here, which must be accepted to participate.

However to make an allusion to computer games, it seems possible for God to make a copy of this universe and allow changes to the copy while leaving this one to run unchanged.

Or just go off and create an entirely new reality using concepts or physics that are irrational, don't make any sense, and have no foundation in reality except for the will of the Creator to make it seem real. Here again I would point to computer games, where the simulated reality of most 3D games is just a simple mock-up with no substance behind it.

Personally I am really looking forward to a "Matrix-like" computer VR simulation becoming possible, but I also fully recognize that this physical reality I experience now may also be a VR simulation running on the Creator's computer, or running within the mind/body of Creator itself, dreaming itself to be individualized atoms, forming a universe, spawning conscious beings..

========

My question here, basically, is that if we are a part of God, and God is a part of us, and the purpose of existence is for God to experience itself..... then it would appear that the Creator would be willing to indulge me in my desire to go completely off the wheel and start a project of my own, create new subsouls out of myself just like God did when it created us, and so forth.

God appears to be capable of unlimited division and infinite action, and so perhaps we can take up the role of Creator ourselves if we so choose. It would appear the Creator doesn't care what we choose to do, but will willingly help us to experience it, because it is empowered through us.

The main problem is that aspiring to become a "sub-Creator" is probably considered egotistical and vain by most spirtual thinkers. You're supposed to be worshiping the Creator, not aspiring to directly become God. This sort of thinking might go so far as to be heretical or a sign of delusional thinking requiring medication, so I don't talk about such things very much.

Though it would appear the original Creator itself had to be egotistical to create anything in the first place. It had to be aware of itself and its "aloneness" in order to be able to contemplate the idea of being something other that just itself. Otherwise it would still just be floating within its own infinite bliss for all eternity and none of this could have ever come into existence in the first place.

Why not? If we truly are to be made in the image of the Creator, why can't we be allowed to accept that role and just see what else can be experienced above and beyond this repeating existence? If it's possible to go completely off and try doing something new, I want to find out if that is possible.

=======

I am aware that potentially nothing new can be experienced, and the belief that everything that can exist already exists in every form possible and impossible. I am also aware that the Creator may exist outside time, and so may be in multiple states of awareness simultaneously, in Oneness, dual, and infinitely subdivided.

Also there is probably nothing new to learn because all we really need to do is re-member and re-unite with the Creator, and we can instantly know and become one with everything. Though it seems like this is what leads to the cycling of forgetting in the first place. We are bored with knowing all and so choose to forget... everything. Bam, back in the baby stroller again. I think God may have a serious crack cocaine habit, except with this it's the blissing out that results in the cycling.

I think the way off the wheel is to accept that yes I COULD bliss out. But I don't have to. And it isn't required. And not only is it not required but I most likely have already done it before millions of times. Billions maybe. And I've also forgotten it all before, too. Billions of times maybe.

Perhaps I can choose a third path. To not bliss out and forget, but to remain individuated for as long as I possibly can, get off the wheel, assume the role of direct creator of my own experience, and do it all linearly, which of course will take forever. But we have that choice apparently.

It appears there's no hurry to get back to God and bliss out, since in the state of no-time, God is already at one with everything anyway. There is absolutely no need to repeat the bliss/forget cycle again, unless you really want to do that.

==========

I also acknowledge these are just theories based on ideas I have read in books, and which have been told to me. I don't have any personal experience with these things, either mystically or physically.

I've tried to learn to see auras without much success. I still don't seem to be able to physically levitate by force of will alone, though I am able to do it frequently in my dreams, hovering several feet off the ground. I keep trying to remember how exactly I do it over there so I can do it here, too..

===========

I'm also halfway a total realist. This physical being writing this message may simply end up dying, rotting in a box, and the consciousness evoking these thoughts may simply dissolve into nothingness when the neural net in this flesh degrades.

These people who think they are astrally traveling could be deluding themselves, and the whole God-seeking thing that drives this search for higher meaning, could just be due to a random DNA encoding mutation in how organic brains accidentally evolved.

Unknown, I still have insufficient data to make any conclusions either way.

But I would like to find out more about personally experiencing the mystical stuff, if possible, and if the mystical contract governing my existence here will allow for it.

=======

So here we are, back at the humming and breathing exercises problem..

Forum: Hinduism

Reason for being Vegetarian

Give me some seconds and Ill give you 1 great reason for being vegetarian.

While fish is the most important dietary supply of the long-chain omega-3s eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, that have been shown to be crucial in supporting brain health, low intake of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid in vegetarians won't adversely affect mood, as outlined by a new study (Nutr J. 2010;9:26. DOI:10.1186/1475-2891-9-26).

A study team from Arizona State University conducted a cross-sectional study to compare the mood of vegetarians who never eat fish with the mood of healthy omnivorous adults.

An overall total of 138 healthy Seventh Day Adventist adults living in Arizona and California (64 vegetarians and 79 non-vegetarians) were enrolled in the study and completed a health history questionnaire, food frequency questionnaire and two psychometric tests, the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale and also the Profile of Mood States..

Vegetarians had significantly lower mean intakes of eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid and the omega-6 arachidonic acid; they had higher intakes of the omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid and the omega-6 linoleic acid.

"Seed oils are the richest sources of -linolenic acid, notably those of rapeseed (canola), soybeans, walnuts, flaxseed (Linseed oil), clary sage seeds, perilla, chia, and hemp."

However, the vegetarians also reported even less negative emotion than omnivores in psychometric tests. Mean total psychometric scores were positively related to the mean intakes of eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid , and inversely associated with alpha-linolenic acid and linolenic acid intake.

The research team noted there is also the chance that vegetarians may make better dietary choices and could generally be healthier and happier.

If you'd like to give it a try, this is an example of vegetarian recipe based on Italian cuisine

Italian Spaghetti with Zucchini

Ingredients:

* 17 oz. Spaghetti

* 24 oz. Of thin sliced zucchini

* A half cup of walnuts oil

* Some basil leaves

* 2 tablespoons of yeast flakes

* Salt and pepper

In a skillet or frying pan heat the oil and when hot, add garlic and zucchini. Raise the heat and stir often to complete their cooking. They should be golden and crispy outside and tender inside. Cook the pasta, drain and saut in pan with zucchini, basil and yeast. Serve immediately.

Zucchini contain fewer calories and have no fat. But they are a good source of potassium, e vitamin, vitamin c, folate, lutein and zeaxanthin.

Many of these nutrients are very sensitive to heat and to enjoy their full benefits you need to look for a quick solution to cook or even eat raw in salads.

From the therapeutic viewpoint, zucchini have laxative, refreshing, anti-inflammatory, diuretic and detoxifying action.

About the writer - Louise Infante writes for the http://www.vegetarianmenu.net blog , her personal hobby blog which is focused entirely on vegetarian food preparation tips to help individuals live better.

This article is written by Louise Infante and posted here on the Hinduwebsite Forum for the benefit of our visitors and forum members. This influence is supposed to begin at birth. Astrologers consider that a person's date of birth has a powerful influence on their character type. Astrologers generally divide the year into 12 date ranges, each one corresponding to one of the 12 signs of the zodiac. Many believe that by finding out someone's star sign they will then be able to gain knowledge which will be useful for them in their dealings with that person.

Astrologers draw up charts interpreting the movement of these heavenly bodies and then interpret these charts in such a way as to assign meaning to their various constructions.

Although it may be dressed up with pseudo-scientific language, ultimately there is little correspondence between the constructions of astrology and the observations of scientific astronomers. The formations and concepts of astrology predate scientific knowledge concerning our Universe. They put the earth at the centre of the Universe, and all stars and planets are imagined to be moving around on the inside of the surface of a something like a spherical ball through various portions of the sphere known as "houses". The technical details vary fromone tradition to another. But as we will see, once you believe in astrology, the technical details don't matter at all - the results are basically the same.

Astrology has been an important part of many a non-Christian religion. Certainly the Egyptians and Babylonians practised it. Today witches of all forms believe in it and guide their activities according to its principles.

Astrology is an occult system because it claims to reveal a secret and mysterious esoteric knowledge to those who have been initiated in its systems and teachings. Down through the years there have always been people firmly convinced that our lives on earth are mysteriously influenced by the celestial bodies - the moon, the planets and the stars. It has been estimated that up to 1 billion people on earth today "believe in or follow astrology to some extent". Many of the rich and famous of this world consult astrologers, convinced that the knowledge they gain will help them be successful in life.

The real power of astrology is not merely in the horoscopes which are published in so many modern newspapers and magazines. Every day these horoscopes contradict each other in so many ways - and indeed, most professional astrologers complain that these columns are vastly oversimplified at best and "utter nonsense" at worst. No, the real power of astrology comes into play when someone goes to a professional astrologer for advice concerning their life and the decisions they must make. The astrologer may be able to come up with many amazing insights concerning the person's character and things that have happened to them in the past. This is attributed to knowledge gained through the charts. When many things are revealed about an otherwise unknown person, amazement and credulity are often the results. People drop their defenses and begin to believe very much in what the astrologer says. If he explains this power in terms of the stars then this may be believed without question. Before long a person can become dependant on the advice and counsel of professional astrologers for every major decision. The power of suggestion and possibly other powers may then become involved in powerfully influencing that person's life. Pretty soon all the events in a person's life - good and bad, may be interpreted in the light of the astrologer's pronouncements.

Astrology teaches a worldview which is basically pagan in orientation. It is basically a form of divination - an attempt by occult means of gaining special knowledge, especially concerning the future. Belief in astrology is promoted wherever the occult arts are promoted. God condemns divination and the reason is simple. The power of the occult is not from the stars, the tea leaves, the candles, the material elements used. The source of occult knowledge and power is personal and it is spiritual. The spirits involved in it are those that lead a person away from loving trust and dependence upon God our Creator. God therefore views these spirits as evil. They mix a little truth with their lies. Another name for these evil spirits is "demons". As unacceptable as it sounds to many ears - those who get involved in any of the occultic arts, including astrology, are opening themselves to become channels for demons.The concept of astrology dates back to ancient times. Beliefs about astrology vary across different regions and cultures. In general, astrology can be classified into two broad categories, namely, natural and judicial. Natural astrology involves the charting of planetary positions, while judicial astrology is based on the study of the effects of celestial bodies on human life. On the basis of regions and cultures, astrology is categorized as Western, Indian and Chinese. Western astrology is said to have been practiced, for the first time, by the people of Babylonia, from where it spread to other countries. We need to hear your queries at wasco@worshipper.com

In quest of identity and destiny man discovered philosophy and religion. In search of realization of philosophical truth and religious summum bunum of life Lord Shiva expounded scientific and mystic tradition known as Tantra.

Tantra forms the esoteric basis of all religion and provides sound philosophical foundation of spirituality. We at wasco presents an indepth analysis and reflection of the root concepts of Tantra such as Kundalini, Mantra and Yantra. Tantra provides an esoteric and physiological significance of tantric Sadhana. Tantra believes that poison that kills a man when scientifically cultured by physician it becomes the elixir of life. bhog when sublimated, it opens the door for salvation.

Tantra is a happy and harmonious blending of enjoyment (Bhoga) and salvation (yoga). It is an intuitional science. The Canonical literature of Tantra is written in Twilight language (Sandhya Bhasa). Its apparent meaning is quite different from the real meaning. Only those who get initiated by a proper Guru in Tantra Sadhana understand the mystic significance of different symbols and esoteric practices.we should never misuse the word tantra ,we take help of tantra only for remedial measures in astrology not more than that. Upanishads are manuals of higher sadhana for advanced and initiated aspirants. It delineates the ancient path of kundalini awakening in its original and pure form before the proliferation of modern yogic literature. This form elucidates a unique combination of kundalini yoga and vedantic upasana. It discusses the nadis, prana vayus, chakras and kundalini shakti, and also provides detailed descriptions of ajapa gayatri and pranava, which are older vedic and upanishadic meditative techniques of enlightment.

So ultimately if you are in search of spiritual enlightenment, you must first seek to discover what your soul purpose in life is. Your soul purpose is the reason you are placed on earth, or can be better understood as what you should strive to accomplish during your life. Once you know your soul purpose, you can then seek spiritual enlightenment to discover the best path to reach that goal. In short, you soul purpose in life is the finish line or what you hope to leave behind, while spiritual enlightenment can be the map or direction you should take or understand in order to finish. Spirituality is not an affection towards God but it is a mutual aggrement between super divine with the pertual soul and it's metaphase eternal embrassment. Between the soul and Divine God there exists bodily stage which totally depends on the theory of Karma in which soul performs good or bad tasks and according to its performance god decides that it is perfect for salvation or not. When we chant mantra the effect is not mere carried by our body but it is simultaniously related with the soul. The soul transmits the power of mantra the subdued energy of mantra then reaches the god and then the god in return embrasses the soul with his super divine desired powers. Our sole purpose of healing through mantra is based on this philosophy that in todays world no mantra, no yantra, is working when practiced by ordinary person an ordinary person can just do prayers.Unless authority like us performs puja, anushthan, mantra meditation, then definitely it provide immediate healing for which we take special charges because in Kaliyuga all mantra are already blocked by lord shiva but the person who knows it can open the key of that perticular mantra , it takes years to open a single mantra through continious sadhanas. Because mantra needs removal o curses which are already there affecting the power of mantra .We have to first remove those curses from that mantra then we can chant that mantra and get beniefits of the energy generated by mantra.

Most people are blessed with certain gifts or abilities that can help point in the direction of your soul purpose. For example, many people are healers while others are doers. Some people have a soul purpose to help others while some will have the ability to design plans so others can be helped.

Your soul purpose may simply be to raise a family so that your children go on to make a difference in the world. No one can tell you your soul purpose. It is something you must seek to discover through internal reflection and self discovery. In essence, your soul purpose is whatever ability you have to accomplish something with your life.

Once you have discovered your soul purpose, you can then seek spiritual enlightenment to assist in your journey. Spiritual enlightenment is a basic understanding of powers higher than yourself and how those powers can be of help or aid in the journey to reach or attain goals. Spiritual enlightenment is not a moment in time where things suddenly become clear and the path is laid perfectly in front of you. Spiritual enlightenment is a process that happens over years of searching and studying to find the correct life map of the way that things should be done.

Spiritual enlightenment is not simply a guideline of what direction you should go but it is a guide in a way to how you should live your life. Spiritual enlightenment is a process of discovering which things you believe are good to do in life and the way you should live your life. It will help you understand how to deal with people and situations and be able to feel like you did the right thing in the end. This can be discovered through prayer, meditation, and studying in books or with other people. This should be a learning process of what you do in your daily life that makes you feel good about your actions.

In short, you must figure out your soul purpose in life and then discover the way to fulfill it while not sacrificing your own soul. If you fulfill your goal, but in the end you can't stand who you have become along they way, you may regret the journey. Using spiritual enlightenment to fulfill your soul purpose will insure that in the end you can live with the steps you took to accomplish the goal. If you are in need of spiritual guidance, there are many ways to locate healers that can assist with finding your way. Spiritual guidance is used to find new ways to heal sicknesses, especially those that deal with the psychological and emotional areas of the body. There are many different types of healers available today. Some of the more popular techniques and beliefs used by healers are homeopathy, ayurvedic treatments, allopathy, and Hekma. While healing through spiritual guidance has not been practiced extensively, it has been proven to be effective in treatments for physical, mental, and emotional ills.Healers often use spiritual guidance from the holy books of the Bible, Qur'an, and the Torah. These three religions use healers to treat sickness and disease. While spiritual guidance may mean different things to people who practice different religions, the basics are usually the same. These are specific Yantras for each Chakra which are worn or used accordingly. Each Yantra carries seperate mantras which if recited indicates different gains. These are called Sharir Yantras.

Dharn Yantra :- As the name indicates, these Yantras are worn on different parts of the body for specific use. They bestow the results when used accordingly. There are several such Yantras and methods.

Asan Yantra :- Such Yantras are kept under Aasna at the time of Sadhana. These bears fruits early than other Yantras These are Yantras which are placed in temples, in the foundation of houses, used as Devas as mentioned earlier. Such Yantras are kept under every Deva for early good results.

Mandal Yantra :- In this the Sadhakas are made to sit in the shape of Yantras itself. Nine persons take part in it. One sits in the centre, four persons in four directions and others recite other mantras. The Sadhana with this Yanra bears fruit early.

Pooja Yantra : - We have earlier indicated that Tantras are installed in temples and Pooja is performed. Actually these Yantras are of a different devas. Such Yantras are installed in many ways namely:-

While installing the idols of Devas, the Yantras are written in digits and accordingly while performing pooja, the names of respective Devas are recited. The Muslims write 786 which is a digital Yantra for the word "Bisam Allah".

In Yantra, the name of Deva is written in the centre and pooja is performed.

Some Yantras are prepared while writing the mantras, in such case, we write full mantras some where, at other place the first words of mantras are written, whereas in other cases we write Beej mantras only.

On some yantras the photos of Devas and Devi etc are pasted or drawn and pooja is performed.

In Such yantras colours are used in the pictures of Devas etc.

Chhatar Yantra:- The above yantras enuomerated at Serial 1 to 5 are writeten at the place where you sit, on at the roof top, on the Skull etc and are Called Chhatar Yantras. These yantras are kept under turbon, hat, or in a Cloth which is kept always with the man as towel etc or be kept in a pocket.

Darshan Yantras:- These are yantras, which are if seen by the Sadhaka, he is benefitted. Or the place where these are installed or worn, blesses the native with Success. In India there are places where purified yantras are installed and those places are very powerful to mitigate the rtroubles and evils of the people if pooja is performed there. In temples of Jagan Nath Puri, Ishairon Yantra and in Shri Nath Dwar is installed Sudarshan yantra etc.

The world is composed of Five elements Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Sky. In Yantras where lines are used with the basic concept of Bindu or point, all these elements are used particularly Earth, Water and Fire. Yantras are rectangular and of Water element are round whereas that of Fire are Tringular. Five or more sides Yantras are too used.

Triangular Yantra when is of raised lines indicates Lord SHIVA'S Yantra and when is of Carved lines denotes of BHAGWATI Yantra.

These Fire elements Yantra indicate specific use, which are to be memorised by the Sadhaka.

Prithvi Tatva:- These Yantras bestow contenment, comforts, ambitions and success.

Jal Tatva :- These Yantras bless the native with respect, Love, Contentment, removes restlessness, Smoothness, affection in life and wisdom.

Agni Tatva:- These Yantras are helpful in gaining respect, success, avert failures and troubles etc.

Vayu Tatva :- These Yantras stand for difficulties, disrespect, unintelligence, etc and they increase such instinets and attract the users to vices.

Akash Tatva :- These Yantras are useful for creating affection, education, Love for all, removing worries, and success in efforts for spirituality in solitude.

In Mohammdan practice, Yantras has been divided into Four types, and known as Atshi, Badi Abbi and Khakhi which corresponds to Fiery (Agni), Airy (Vayu), Watery (Jal) and Earthy (Prithvi) respectively. In Hindu and other religions these are used for specific but for same purpose.

Agni or Atshi Yantras are written on paper, Bhoj Patra, old clothes, China wares etc. these Yantras are put in Fire or burried near hearth place or Fire place etc. They bless the the native with success and help in overcoming the diffculties of life and for controlling dreams etc. These should be written facing East, sitting on one knee and near the Fire.

Badi or Airy yantras are those which are bung with a tree or are placed at a height where they should remain in motion. These are used for affection, love affairs or for stopping the speech of another man etc. It should be written while sitting at aheight or roof top of a house.

Abbi Yantras are known as Jal or Watery one, these are thrown in river, canal, well or any place where there is water as per specific directions. Generally are used for release of prisoners etc. Write facing West, standing in water.

Khaki or Prithvi or Earthy Yantras are burried under the Chowkhat, cremation path, mountain or at the places where four roads meet. These are used for the death of enemies. These Yantras be written while facing South, sitting on one knee, dhoop or incense be lighted. Months: - The auspicious months for writing the yantras are Shara Vana, Bhadra pad, Aswij, Kartik, Maghasar, Vaisakh, Pause, Magha and Phalgun. These months are Hindi Bikrami month. The yantra prepared during these months indicates successful results. They are beneficial for wealth, Gold, gain , respect, Comforts from Children, promotion, success, education etc. The months of Chaitra, Jyestha and Asar are middling for writing of yantras. Other months are not fit for writing of yantras.

Paksha: - Shukal Paksha is better than Krishna Paksha. The former is auspicious whereas latter is middling.

Thithi:- For Vashi Karan Nand tithi, For Lakshmi and education Bhara Tithi, for Moksha and spirituality Siddhi Jya tithi and for Maran Rikta tithis are suitable. For all auspicious works Pooran tiithies are most suitable.

Nakshatra: - Hast and Pushya nakshatra falling on Sunday are suitable for Kashatriya Rohini and Mrigasira nakashatras falling on Monday are good for spiritual purposes Aswini falling on Tuesday for Jewellers, Anuradha on Wednesday for Brahmins, Pushya falling on Thursday for Vaish, Rewati falling on Sunday are auspicious for persons is troubles, diseased and facing turmoils.

Colours:- For spiritual Sadhana white, for Maran, Uchattan Black, for Vashi Karan, Mohan etc red, for acquisition of wealth yellow, Kesari, and for Aakarshan Blue colours are most successful and bears early results.

A Yantra is a symbolic diagrammatic representation of a Deity, or parts of human body, various aspects of life - both spiritual and material, the shad chakras, the nadi centers etc. Take the above Sri Yantra (Also called Shree Chakra) for example. It represents Devi Lalita Tripura Sundari or Kamakshi Devi or Shodasi Devi or Shakti. The outer 3 lines, called the 1st Avarana, represent her feet, the inside 8 petal lotus, called the 3rd Avarana, represents her nabhi or naval and so on. There are 28 Devies placed in specific places on the 3 lines - or her feet. The other Avaranas also have different Devies placed at different specific locations. While doing Tantrik worship, where each of these Devies are individually worshipped with mantras and by offering flowers or Akshintas etc., it is more convenient to worship a Yantra than a picture or an idol. The same is the case with Hanuman yantra, or Kubera yantra or Navagraha yantra etc. - with variations in deities, numbers, locations and beeja mantras etc.

In the olden days people used to draw a yantra at the pooja place, on the ground or on a wooden board or metal piece, with rice flour or wheat flour or sindoor. This was very convenient but while doing pooja it can easily get erased. A longer lasting method was to make a yantra by engraving the yantra on a copper or brass plate. The rich class used silver or gold plates. They had to go through all this trouble because in those days there was no paper or printing. The metallic materials are used essentially to enhance the longevity and the visual presentation. In some cases for certain specific purposes yantras made of gold, silver etc are prescribed. Today, for regular normal worship the best is to get a good printed yantra and laminate it. If the purpose of your buying a yantra is simply to hang it at the pooja place, or wear it, or do a simple worship with a stotra or mantra, then you are better off buying a picture or an idol of that God than a yantra, because, for example, the photo of Lord Shiva is more familiar to you and invokes more bhakti feeling than His yantra.

However, If you want to do a proper Tantrik worship (which gives quicker and better results), by ritualistically following all the anganyasa, karanyasa, mudra, avahana, pratisthana, offerings, rituals and worship the various places of the yantra with the prescribed beeja mantras, then a yantra is more useful. For proper Tantrik worship you have to do the pratisthana yourself and by following all the rules do a 100,000 times mantra japa within 44 days (one mandala). Normally people do 125,000 times mantra japa in 48 days - the extra number to take care of any mistakes in pronunciation or counting.

Even if you cannot do a full ritualistic pratisthana etc, at least you must worship 108 times daily with the prescribed mantra.

Now a days a lot of self proclaimed Mantriks, Tantriks and web pundits are promising the sun, moon and the stars to gullible people with all kinds of nonsense.

This website does not support any black magic practices as we prepare divine yantras according to the

specific requirement of specific person our soul purpose is to heal that person.

our high special yantras are kailash yantra, kuber yantra , kartavirya arjun yantra, swarnakarshan bhairav yantra, shree yantra, maruti yantra, baglamukhi yantra, all yantras are made with high care and elegance . We serve as devotee of occult tantra and expect and believe that all our yantras contains enourmous energy which can be used for instant healing via meditation on that yantra. prices varies as metal used and yantra size , we are not sellers of yantras we suggest yantra and prepare it for a perticular person who visits us . First we analyse his horoscope, hand, and other psychic readings and then sugest remedial yantra. all appointments should be fixed from email; youryantra@yahoo.in

Forum: Hinduism

Hindu temple architecture for dummies

Hi

I have recently been interested in the philosophical and cosmological meanings behind Hindu temple architecture. Broadly, the evolution of these designs has started from the Vedic yantras, then graduated to the Buddhist stupas, and finally produced the devalayas of today..

Apparently, the Hindu temples (and Buddhist stupas, and also the modern Buddhist temples of Japan, Thailand etc..) are supposed to be a symbolic representation of the Meru mountain.

I have once taken a temple architecture course in the university and learnt about the various parts of the temple, but at that time, I was not interested in the philosophical aspects and didn't pay attention. I haven't taken notes carefully, and now I am living abroad, away from India. Can somebody please suggest me an online reference for Hindu temple architecture. The easier to read, the better for me

Forum: Hinduism

birthday cake symbolism

Hi

This might seem like a very strange question, but I don't see any harm in posting it.

I am not a Hindu, but I am making a birthday cake for a little boy's first birthday. He is called Aditya.

His cake will have on it a teddy bear, ABC building blocks etc (wanted by his parents), I will also add some little blue flowers.

Having looked up the meaning of his name, would it be nice to add one or two little yellow suns to the cake decoration, or would this be offensive? Do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you
Forum: Hinduism

Kali, the Goddess of destruction

Hi, I have a query. Is the Goddess Kali, the goddess of destruction, a part of nature or outside it? From what I understand, since she is the destroyer of the world, she has to be outside and seperate from the universe as we know it, to perform such action. Please correct if I am wrong. Thankyou, Sameer.

From a visitor to Hinduwebsite
Forum: Hinduism

Individuality of the soul

Namaste

In the Dvaita philosophical view of Vedic teachings, the soul retains its individuality thru' pralay and eternally stays an individual.

What gives the 'individual' soul/AtmA its individuality or distinction when it is pure and liberated ?

The subtle body cannot possibly stay after liberation, because then that would not be liberation. So what gives the soul I-ness , identity which "it" can perceive ? It is understandable that Parameshvar identifies individual pure liberated souls. But how can the soul know this ?

How can the individual soul have a preference, choice, decision, action, and a role to play in the Lord's Leelas after the mind, intelligence, ego and all subtle matter is gone ?

Thank You

Forum: Hinduism

Head Shaving Ceremony

Hello: I am invited to a head shaving ceremony for friends' son, and I am wondering if a gift of some sort for the chlld is the proper etiquette. I am looking forward to the event, but am American and have never had any experience with the Hindu religion. I would appreciate any feedback you could give me. Also, if a gift is in order, is there anything in particular that would be appropriate,or more importantly, inappropriate.

Thanks So Much

Danielle B
Forum: Hinduism

Who is this saint?

The following is an passage from my father's book "The Long Road Back", concerning his experiences in WWII. He met a saint in Bombay that had some sort of connection to Ghandi, though I know that Ghandi did not have a guru.

I would very much like to know who the Hindu saint is that my father describes. My limited research could not pin down the historical person. He sounds somewhat like BABAJI, but he is more of a mythical than a historical personality. The ashes all over his body tend to indicate that he was a sadhu.

Mahatma Ghandi was in a British prison in 1942 and was held at a British compound outside Bombay. We went to the area to receive our monthly paycheck, which was far overdue. Ghandi was housed in a small house, about the size of a garage in the center of a park-like area. We passed next to the building on the way to the naval office. Ghandi was outside getting some exercise. He saw us and waved to us giving a Hindu blessing. This was very special to me as I had long been an admirer of him.

On one of our outings in Bombay, we saw one of Ghandis mentors, an Indian holy man at the Hindu college. The college was in a park-like area and the classes were all outside with the students sitting on the ground surrounding the teachers. As we passed through the area we came upon an elaborate pavilion. As we approached we saw what at first glance was an old man seated in front of a fire. As we drew nearer we saw that he was a young man, handsome, with snow-white hair. He was seated in front of the fire with his legs crossed. We were informed that the position was permanent: he never really moved from that position. He slept that way and performed all other functions from that position. That was his penance to his holy ones. Each time an individual or a group approached him, he reached his hands into the fire and then covered his body with the white ash. An attendant then washed his body clean. He did this over and over again. When we were in front of him, he seemed especially curious and asked our guide about us and then gave us a huge smile and a blessing. While were were in front of him, we observed that his hands were as soft and delicate as a childs hands and his body seemed perfectly formed despite his years of not moving. He was a very handsome man and one felt a special reverence and awe in his presence.

Forum: Hinduism

any thoughts or opinions?

my whole life i've categorized myself as an atheist or agnostic. described myself as spiritual but not religious. i as any other american have had christianity shoved down my throat since birth. little known fact about me: i was born a jehovah's witness. going to church every sunday and thursday and bible study tuesday. knocking on doors on saturday. i remember at 6 laying in my bed at night angry at the world and realizing that there was no god. ever since then i had no religion. i've read the bible cover to cover. i know more about chrisianity than any christian i've met. and i made it a point to be able to argue intelligently when they try to 'prove' to me that their god is real. history disproves christianity. you just need to look for it. relgions became almost a hobby for me. i've studied judiasm, scientology, and mormonism. i know the jist of almost every western religion. i always thought that the very idea of heaven and hell was just asinine and impossible. reincarnation always seemed to make more sense the more i thought about it.

i always believed in science. what could be proven, what i could see and touch. i believed in evolution, and the big bang, and the laws of nature. what goes up must come down, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. i was in awe of the perfect balance it had. the simple, even, emotionless, constant movement of time. the way the planets moved in a perfect circle every moment of its existence around the same sun. how this movement affected our own planet. every piece of it. how the insects balance out the plants that balance out the animals that balance us out. its beautiful in the way that it has every single base covered.

about 19 years old is when i was in the thick of completely sorting out and cleaning up my head. i was done with the outward craziness but inside things were still chaotic. i began a new way of life. a life of inward thinking. constant contemplation. when a feeling would start welling up inside of me i would think 'why am i feeling this way?, what lead to it? what will it do if i allow myself to feel it?'. i forced myself to look at the consequences of my actions so that i may avoid more negativity. the more i did it, the better my life got. the healthier i felt and the clearer my head got. i can remember one night in particular when i was thinking about my dad. trying to solve the biggest puzzle in my life : how could one man hate his own daughter THAT much? i know who i am. i know that i am a genuinely good person. i know that there is nothing inside of me that could make a normal person have that much black hatred for me. and i began thinking about what about HIM that made him that way. and just then i saw all the connections between everything. i saw the connections from his childhood that lead to his young adult years that lead to having me that lead to his adulthood and my childhood. i saw how it connected to me and all of my life experiences. i saw how my experiences lead up to the life that i was currently living. i could actually 'see' the energies of the universe being released from one being or action or thought and going out into the universe to affect something or someone else.

for the first time in my life i felt as though i had my own 'higher power'. i was filled with a sense of peace and love and comfort like i have never felt in my life. i loved my newfound mentality of the world. i had a purpose. everything did. it allowed me to have the precious gift needed for mental health : acceptance. i could accept all of the horrible moments that i had to endure. i could accept the terror and the sadness and everything else that weighed me down. my life was darkness. and nothing is able to grow in the darkness. nothing good and pure anyway.. mold, not flowers. i say that my life didnt begin until i was 17 for two reasons. because thats when i finally escaped my dads house and its when my son was born. until i was 12, my dad beat me on average 3 days a week. but even more than that, he mindfcked me 24 hours a day. i was so out of control, so emotionally stunted that i actually threw a 2 hour full blown temper tantrum almost every single night... until i was 13. yeah. seriously. he would flip from horribly black to sickly sweet. i was fat, stupid, worthless, annoying, a drain on his life, a burden, ungrateful, and no man could or would ever love me. when i would bring the abuse up, i was delusional. didnt know what i was talking about. crazy. in need of mental help. and then on the rare moments of 'sweetness' i would get "nichole, i love you so much. you are my first born so you always have a special place in my heart, (cue tears in eyes) no one could ever take that away from you. you're my baby and i've always wanted the best for you. i gave EVERYTHING to you. your fat mom couldnt even do for you. but i did. because i love you, because i'm your father and that's what i'm supposed to do. i wish my father would have done half the things i've done for you or half the things i've given to you. my dessert was katchup bread. and still you treat me like garbage. when the rest of the family says bad things about you, i ALWAYS stick up for you. because you're my daughter. but when they talk bad about me, you're right there with them. it hurts my heart nichole." and so on and so forth. every suicide attempt was because of him. i would wish that he would die in a car crash on the way to work... at 7. when i went to school, i was socially retarded. i didnt know how to connect with people. i thought everyone was supposed to hate me. i didnt think i was worth talking to. i carried it with me my entire life. but once i was able to leave him. to remove him and his cancerous energy from my life, i was able to start growing. i was able to become a PERSON and not a shadow. and with emery i was able to know what love actually was. pure love that wants nothing in return but more love. the barren land of my soul had the black mold cleared out. replaced with the start of something beautiful. i had light in my life for the first time.

now i am exactly who i've always wanted to be. i'm a good, kind, trustworthy person who has the most loving family in the world. i think before i act and for the most part, my life is good. i'm able to enjoy myself even under the worst conditions. i'm able to look at ALL of me and love myself. even the parts that i hate. because its a part of me, and only with love can change occur. i started this new existential life, this state of constant contemplation. looking at every situation like a math problem figuring out what caused it and what will happen next. i can read people like no one else i know. every eye twitch, hand or mouth movement, tone and reflection of voice.. i know exactly how they feel about everything. i can tell a lie from the truth. i have an awareness of the world that few my age have. i was taught lessons by the universe the hard way, the way that REALLY nails it into your brain. i am wise beyond just one lifetime. and once i was able to take focus off myself, i was able to apply my constant contemplation to this new spirituality i had found.

my beliefs in reincarnation and the energies and balance of the universe was the jumping off point. from there i was able to realize the answers to all of the great WHYS in the world. why do children get beat and killed? because in their past life they beat and killed someone more helpless than themselves. why do bad things happen to good people? the bad needs to balance out the good. there are some lessons and realizations that are necessary for that persons personal growth that can only be taught through grief and loss and pain. i started to think about death. i've been dead twice in this life. both times i went to a blackness that wrapped itself around my soul, bringing a feeling of total peace and comfort that took away every ounce of pain i ever felt. i was suspended in nothingness and it was beautiful. i thought about how this tied into reincarnation. i realized that there has to be a midway point between death and life. a sort of 'incubative' state where all the pain and memories from one life is stripped away so that you may move to the next carrying with you only the energies that rule the universe. i believed that i alone am my own god. that i create the life i have. i make the decisions that effect myself and my life. i am in control and no one other. i cannot control what happens to me in the universe, but i can control what i do about it after it happens.what my reaction is. i believed that every thought, word, and action i made is what created the energies that ruled my world. the complete foundation of my 'own' religion, my own set of spiritual beliefs were laid.

and then last night after watching slumdog millionaire with my husband he asked me about the names of the hindu gods. i never read much into this religion so i went to the best website ever created WIKIPEDIA and looked it up. it would be a decision that would alter my life forever. the more i read, the more goosebumps i got. waves and waves of realization hit me harder and harder over and over again. i just stared at the screen in complete and utter disbelief. right there. right there in front of me was everything i believed in. everything i thought was my own beliefs. i was reading my own brain written by another hand. i'll show you what i mean.

*note, the following is copied and pasted from wikipedia. not just from the hindu page, but also from related pages.

A key distinctive feature of Sikhism is a non-anthropomorphic concept of God, to the extent that one can interpret God as the Universe itself. God is omnipresent (sarav vi?pak) in all creation and visible everywhere to the spiritually awakened. Nanak stressed that God must be seen from "the inward eye", or the "heart", of a human being: devotees must meditate to progress towards enlightenment

when ever i was asked who my god was, i always replied 'the universe'

Six Bardos

Shinay bardo (Tibetan): is the first bardo of birth and life. This bardo commences from conception until the last breath, when the mindstream withdraws from the body.

Milam bardo (Tibetan): is the second bardo of the dream state. The Milam Bardo is a subset of the first Bardo. Dream Yoga develops practices to integrate the dream state into Buddhist sadhana.

Samten bardo (Tibetan) is the third bardo of meditation. This bardo is generally only experienced by meditators, though individuals may have spontaneous experience of it. Samten Bardo is a subset of the Shinay Bardo.

Chikkhai bardo (Tibetan): is the fourth bardo of the moment of death. According to tradition, this bardo is held to commence when the outer and inner signs presage that the onset of death is nigh, and continues through the dissolution or transmutation of the Mahabhuta until the external and internal breath has completed.

Chnyid bardo (Tibetan): is the fifth bardo of the luminosity of the true nature which commences after the final 'inner breath' (Sanskrit: prana, vayu; Tibetan: rlung). It is within this Bardo that visions and auditory phenomena occur. In the Dzogchen teachings, these are known as the spontaneously manifesting Thdgalthod-rgyal) visions. Concomitant to these visions, there is a welling of profound peace and pristine awareness. Sentient beings who have not practiced during their lived experience and/or who do not recognize the clear light (Tibetan: od gsal) at the moment of death are usually deluded throughout the fifth bardo of luminosity. (Tibetan:

Sidpai bardo (Tibetan): is the sixth bardo of becoming or transmigration. This bardo endures until the inner-breath commences in the new transmigrating form determined by the 'karmic seeds' within the storehouse consciousness.

this describes the 'incubative' state that i believed in. i was frustrated all the while in this belief because i couldnt think of a better word for it. a better way to describe it.

Originally bardo referred only to the period between one life and the next, and this is still its normal meaning when it is mentioned without any qualification. There was considerable dispute over this theory during the early centuries of Buddhism, with one side arguing that rebirth (or conception) follows immediately after death, and the other saying that there must be an interval between the two. With the rise of mahayana, belief in a transitional period prevailed

For the spiritually advanced the bardo offers a state of great opportunity for liberation, since transcendental insight may arise with the direct experience of reality, while for others it can become a place of danger as the karmically created hallucinations can impel one into a less than desirable rebirth.

here's my belief on what determines your next life. or what determined your current one.

According to these religions, one's karmic "account balance" at the time of death is inherited via the state at which a person is reborn. During the course of each worldly life actions committed (for good or ill) determine the future destiny of each being in the process of becoming (evolution or devolution)

also,

the foundation of Hindu beliefs, which primarily include dharma, karma, ahimsa and reincarnation.

dharma is the 'religion' itself. having the beliefs of karma and reincarnation. they say that dharma is the the correct understanding of these teachings and those who follow it will reach nirvana sooner and will be able to feel the complete release in the bardo state.

karma

is the concept of "action" or "deed" in Indian religions understood as that which causes the entire cycle of cause and effect

In these systems, the effects of all deeds are viewed as actively shaping past, present, and future experiences.

A person himself is the sole doer and enjoyer of his karmas and their fruits.

According to Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda, we produce Karma in four ways:

through thoughts

through words

through actions that we perform ourselves

through actions others do under our instructions

Ahimsa is a rule of conduct that bars the killing or injuring of living beings. It is closely connected with the notion that all kinds of violence entail negative karmic consequences.

when i was younger, i always wanted to go hunting with my dad. i would practice for hours and hours my skill with a bow and arrow. i was really. really. good. bulls eyes almost every shot. but when it came time to shoot a turkey for a kids contest, i missed 7 shots. i went with my dad to track a doe and we found her laying screaming in pain in the forest. i cried the whole night after my dad went over and cut her throat to end her pain. i realized that night that i could never hunt. i never could imagine myself taking the life of someone else. being in the presence of a gun terrifies me. just seeing one brings a feeling of death. i wont let kyle get one. i wont have one in my house.

reading all of this... its so much for me to process. i have never in my life met a hinu. i've never been influenced by the religion in any way in any point of my life. the beliefs i came up with were mine alone. i do not believe in coincidence. and i certainly dont think that if ANYONE meditated alone on what actually rules the universe and ourselves and the afterlife, that someone would come up with there being a god, and a son of god, and a heaven and a hell. i just dont logically see it happening. i've always had a logical brain. thinking about what makes sense. and the fact that my own spirituality is actually the 5th largest religion.. blows my fricken mind. it makes me feel special. it makes me feel like i'm absolutely right and not crazy after all. when i would try and explain my way of thinking to anyone, they'd look at me like i was a crazy hippie. i am not. i am hindu.

i wrote that about a month ago. i really would like to know a true hindu's perspective on what has happened. what does this mean? how did this happen?

ever since coming to this realization i've had the same reoccurring dream: that i went to visit holy temples in india and when i got to a village with a group of very religious men and i sat and talked to them. when they first saw me their eyes got wide and they looked at eachother in disbelief. they later told me it was because of the colour of my aura. when i try to leave to go back to the hotel where my family is one of them grabs my arm and tells me that i dont understand. that i was there for a reason. that this is where i have come every lifetime and this is where i shall stay for the remainder of this one. they start to teach me the history of the religion. and once i learn it they begin to write down every word i say. then i wake up.

its starting to scare me a little bit. what does this all mean?
Forum: Hinduism
